This bronze cat by Rebecca Tobey has a regal carriage enhanced by the plumed ridge adorning her head. “Diva” is lavished with a rich, dark patina that transitions from burgundy into midnight-blue. She sits on a black granite base. “Diva” is covered with etched designs depicting stars, flowers and flourishes, a departure from the Tobey’s signature southwestern and pictographic imagery.

As artists, the collaboration of Gene and Rebecca Tobey was a breath of fresh air. The two created a style of art that is entirely unique and distinctive. Because of its ingenious simplification of sculptural imagery, and use of sgraffito, the Tobey design is instantly recognizable. Gene & Rebecca created their own symbolic language pulling from Native American imagery and their own experiences.
