John Maisano’s professional career spans more than 25 years. In addition to his sculpture, he has worked both as an exhibit designer and as an artist-in-residence at Yale University’s Peabody Museum of Natural History in Connecticut, as well as at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

John’s body of work reflects a combination of influences, most notably the architectural grandeur of the Peabody Museum at Yale University and the Texas Memorial Museum at The University of Texas at Austin. With their fusion of Gothic and Art Deco architecture, and the stylized nature of the creatures housed within them, these buildings inspired John to focus his talents on creating graceful interpretations of animals’ shapes in a way that captures the life force of each animal and transforms it into something more. Each sculpture is inscribed with intricate designs derived from natural forms and structures. The effect is distinctly Art Nouveau, French for “new art”, a style of art and architecture that emerged in the late 1800s characterized by swirling designs and curvilinear motifs.

John is also fascinated by the artistic designs found in Celtic,  African,  Inuit and Tribal art.  These designs have inspired him to incorporate aspects of local cultural influence in each of his own sculptures.  These carefully designed representations fuse the physical form of each animal to its spiritual energy, preserving both for all time.
